Omar Brown Speaks About Movie Night Success

By Imryanna Alexander, December 7, 2020

With the restrictions that Covid-19 has caused many have found ways to work around them to achieve their daily goals, especially with the closure of some schools. During a normal school year students would experience various school events such as fun days, eistedford, disco rooms, etc., however, with the current situation many of these events are impossible and just a few can be transferred to virtual platforms.

Last Friday evening, the Sixth Form Association of York Castle High hosted their very first virtual movie night called 'Eagle Cinema', where three genres of movies were shown in three different google meet rooms: action, romance and motivational. This was a smart move taking into account the interest differences among the students.

We had a chat with the SFA president, Omar Brown, who agreed the evening was a success, but further stated the turn out count could have been higher. After being asked the type of feedback he received from the attendees he replied, "All positive,

only thing I'd consider negative is that some persons had watched the movie before so they didn't stay for the whole thing". He continued to express his gratitude to all who attended the movie night. He stated the sixth formers were pleased with how the event played out and are planning to host movie night once a month.
